KuneKune Pigs
Did you know - Prior to 1995 there were NO KuneKune Pigs in the USA!?!?
I fallen in love with these wonderful pigs! Kunekune (pronounced cooney cooney) pigs are a small breed of domestic pig that originated from New Zealand. They are often raised for their meat but their small size and one of a kind personalities make them great pets too!
We started out pig venture with a Mini Juliana and a Pot Belly. Once I got my first kunekune their is just no going back to Mini Pigs! I like to say Mini Juliana and Pot Belly piglets need to be tamed. Kunekune piglets are born tame! From a very young age kunekune pigs seek out and thrive on human attention. Mine would just look at me and flop over begging for belly rubs. I could be outside working and my girls would come find me and lay at my feet just waiting for my hands to be free.
The downfall of kunekune pigs as pets is they get a little larger then most pot bellies and Mini Juliana pigs.
*Remember pigs are little heavyweight tanks on short legs!*
Most Pot Belly pigs will get 60-120 lbs but I have seem many reach 150 - 200 lbs
By breed standard, Mini Juliana Pigs are supposed to stay under 70lbs but I have seen some reach 100 - 150 lbs.
Here at Texas Skyz we do NOT fall for the Mini Pig Hype of 20-40lb adult pigs. I have never seen a healthy Mini Pig (Pot Belly or Juliana) that stayed that small. Pigs grow for MANY Years with most of their growth done in the first 3 years. While their may be some rare individuals out their that stay tiny for healthy or genetic reason it is NOT the norm. I have seen plenty of year old Pot Bellies BIGGER then my year old Kunekunes.

Kunekunes usually fall in the 150 - 200 lb range but some lines can reach 300 lbs. It may sound HUGE but remember I said heavy weights on short legs? The average height for kunekunes is 24 - 28" tall.
This is considerably smaller then most commercial farm hogs that can easily reach over 800lbs.

Our Pigs:
GGR Kereopa 5 - "Pumpkin"
(Mahia Love X Kereopa)
(Mahia Love X Kereopa)
Pumpkin & her sister (below) Patches, were my 1st 2 Kunekunes. They are the reason I fell in love with the breed. These girls are LONG bodied but very short! I'm a huge fan of these "low rider" girls! Pumpkin and her sister are grand daughters of the very first Kereopa sow imported into the USA by Goose Meadow Farm in 2011!!!
